Construction has officially started on a massive new purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) project adjacent to the University of Warwick campus. The £160 million development will provide 1,209 new student beds when fully complete, addressing high demand in the area.
Joint venture partners McLaren Property, Topland Group, and iQ Student Accommodation have commenced ground works on the site previously occupied by a former Barclays Bank office. McLaren Construction has been appointed as the contractor for the two-phase project.
The first 605 beds will be completed in time for the 2025 academic intake, with the remaining 604 beds following in 2026. In addition to the 1,209 PBSA beds, the development will contain 131 co-living spaces and around 6,000 square feet of retail.
Student amenities include study lounges, gaming and TV zones, private dining rooms, a gymnasium, and a yoga studio. The goal is to deliver a best-in-class living experience befitting the University of Warwick’s reputation.
The project represents the university’s most extensive private PBSA accommodation to date. Topland acquired the site in 2013 before joining with partners McLaren and iQ to bring the development forward.
