So sit tight and let’s get started!
What is this “Clearing” and why is it conducted?
Clearing is how various universities and colleges fill any places they still have on their courses.
This system is set up by UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) and is quite popular among students going for a bachelor’s course in the UK.
It is conducted to give students a second chance at getting a place at university, by matching them to universities with unfilled places.
What are the key dates and who can you use Clearing?
As we all know timing plays an important role in everything and the same is true for Clearing as well. From 5 July – 19 October, you can apply for a course using Clearing if you are not already holding an offer from a university or college, and the course still has places.
You can use Clearing only if:
- You’re applying after 30 June
- You didn’t receive any offers (or none you wanted to accept)
- You didn’t meet the conditions of your offers
- You’ve paid the multiple-choice application fee of £26
- You’ve declined your firm place using the ‘decline my place’ button in Track

What is Clearing Plus and how it is different from Clearing?
Clearing Plus is a new tool, designed to help students find their perfect course and will be available alongside Clearing.
In Clearing Plus, UCAS will personally match you to courses you may be interested in, using what they know about you from your application, and what universities and colleges are looking for in a student.
NOTE: Clearing Plus isn’t available for everyone. If you’re unsuccessful with your application or are applying for the first time for a place in Clearing, then only you’ll be able to use Clearing Plus.
Every year UCAS provides this excellent opportunity of Clearing to re-think if you are unsure about a course, or wondering if you will be best using your skillset. Lots of universities have easy-to-view course information online and can also view your application and officially accept you.
