PTE is the Pearson Test of English Academic conducted by Pearson VUE. It is an internationally recognized English language proficiency examination. It determines the English language skill of non-speakers who want to study abroad.
PTE measures the student’s reading, listening, and speaking skills. It is accepted by over 3,000 universities and colleges in 74 countries. In some cases, it is also required for immigration purposes.
The purpose of the test is not to examine the deep understanding of the language but to test the ability of the students to comprehend English. The test is available for students even up to the last minute. Students can take the test from a network of 35 centers in India. Students also have the option to take Home Edition Test, providing they have all the requirements.
The test is conducted based on safety regulations, with no more than 15 students in the room.
Requirements & Registration:
- Candidates must be 16 years and above.
- Candidates of 16 years of age should have their parent’s consent.
- The consent form is available on the PTE website.
- Candidates need to register at PTE’s official website.
- The test can be booked 24 hours in advance.
- Once the registration is done, the candidate needs to pay a fee of Rs.15,900 (in India).

What is the PTE Syllabus?
Speaking and Writing PTE Test
This part of the test will assess the students based on their spoken and written communication skills. It is one of the longest of all the syllabi. The speaking section will last for around 56-58 mins. The test contains seven different types of questions. The results will be evaluated based on speaking skills.
Reading PTE Test
This part of the test will assess the students based on their ability to understand the written instructions in English. The reading section is divided into five segments. The test will be conducted for 29-30 mins. The results will be evaluated based on the reading skills.
Listening PTE Test
This part of the test will assess the students based on their ability to listen and remember the English audio file by heart. The reading section is divided into eight segments. The test will be conducted for 30-43 mins. The results will be evaluated based on the listening skills.
How to prepare for PTE Exams?
Students preparing for the PTE can take an online preparation test through the official website of PTE-A. Irrespective of the preferred course and university, anyone can take the test. The PTE-A website offers several preparation materials for free online. There are sample papers which are in tune with PTE Exam patterns and syllabus.

PTE Exams Results

- The results are out within 48 hours of the test.

Each university is different and will determine the score based on its requirements. The score is valid for two years from the date of the test taken. The results are released on the ‘MYPTE account.”
