On International Youth Day 2024, you, as the youth, should celebrate this day with great enthusiasm. You are the upcoming generation that will shine a light on this world through the purpose made on this earth. 

The International Youth Day slogan 2024 is “Empowering Youth, Building Tomorrow.” 

Every year, the International Youth Day celebration is celebrated on 12th August to recognise the energy, passion and dedication by the youth to the world.  

The international youth day 2024 theme is “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.” 

You are the seed of prosperity. This is the day to be bold and courageous and stand for what you believe in! This is the day to inspire you to overcome your challenges in the coming journey of your life. There are many youths battling issues, and if you can inspire each other, do it together for the betterment of the world. 

World International Youth Day Meaning 

It is one of the most important days for youths in the world. This International youth day is to encourage, inspire, and transform youths into better humans for society.   

What is the history of International Youth Day? 

It initially started in December 1991, when it was put forth during the inaugural session of the World Youth Forum within the United Nations System. However, in 1998, the Portuguese government signed up with the UN to designate 12th  August as International Youth Day.  

What is the purpose of International Youth Day? 

This International Youth Day raises awareness and draws attention to a set of legal, political, or social issues encompassing youth. It also recognises the contributions and impacts the community has made in the social and socioeconomic. 

World International Youth Day Awareness Programs: 

There are different activities and initiatives carried out in different parts of the world to celebrate this day: 

Organised Workshops  

These types of workshops can range from educational topics or seminars on health, careers, skills and environmental awareness.  

Community Activities 

The youth should be encouraged to participate and be part of community work. In every community, youths should be given platforms to talk, inspire and even showcase their talents. Then only they can grow! 

Policy discussion 

Policymakers make efforts to discuss the challenges faced by youth and overcome them. Through campaigns, the youth are supported, which benefits them all. 

Initiative through creatives 

Different regions of the world encourage and educate the youth to showcase their art at exhibitions, host film screenings and provide a platform to express their creative juices through creative writing. 

Sports & Recreational Activities 

We have seen sports stars from across the world, that’s because the countries support the youth through many programs. Some youths are into fitness and outdoor activities, and they are well-supported, but more initiatives should be for the youth. 

Mentorship 

Many programs mentor the youth in the field of their interest. These initiatives are held in many networking events to help youth connect with peers and professionals. 

Fundraising 

There are fund charity events to support the youth in youth-related challenges like health, scholarships and to provide basic resources to the poor youth and help them study, be healthy and be part of the youthful youth. 

International Youth day Activities By Universities 

1. The University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and Imperial College London:-

All of these institutions provide a very supportive environment for students to learn, grow and be included! They are hosting panel discussions and seminars by expert leaders on the theme of International Youth Day 2024. 

2. The University of Edinburgh and the University of Manchester:-

These two institutions are organising workshops on topics related to skills, digital education and mental health. These initiatives are to support and help students build their personal and professional growth. 

3. The University of Leeds and the University of Birmingham 

The institutions will celebrating the contributions made by the students to the digital and sustainability. There will be a host of programs and competition in cultural activities, arts, etc. 

4. London School of Economics

It’s an exciting time for the students as the college will be focusing on the career of the youth. It will be organising a career fair and event to help students connect with potential leaders of the industry to provide a guide to life and career.

These are only a few mentioned above, but there are many universities across the world that’s celebration International Day through many programs and initiatives.  

In a nutshell  

You are the youth, and you know better than anyone how to make this day productive and fruitful. Just because you are young doesn’t mean you do not have a voice to speak out. You will be the leaders of tomorrow, and with the growing and abundant amount of resources, no better generation can impart better knowledge than you! 

You are the future  

If you are facing any challenges in life- be it mental health, social anxiety, or lack of resources to support your growth, be courageous to come and talk of the challenges. Speak to your counsellor, parents and your close friends about any issue. The world recognises the youth as a wheel to growth and development in all natures of life. You have different roles to play in the world. Start recognising them and making a change in the world.
