Founded in 1962 by the Church of England, Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) is a highly-ranked public institution of higher education in Kent's historic city of Canterbury. It was originally set up in 1962 to provide comprehensive teacher training but in 1995 it was granted degree-granting powers. The university has over 17,000 students from more than 100 different countries enrolled in various courses. Campus overview
CCCU has campuses in three locations across Kent - Canterbury, Medway, and Tunbridge Wells. The main campus of the university is located in a beautiful setting at North Holmes in Canterbury . This campus falls within the St Augustine Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS) and celebrates its place within it through its green spaces and reference to its heritage and surrounding landscape. The Medway campus was opened in October 2004 as part of the Universities at Medway partnership and offers programmes in health, social care and early years. The Rowan Williams Court and Cathedral Court are two buildings on this campus.
Student life
Due to a large student population, Canterbury is littered with clubs, bars and events for all occasions. There are some clubs like Club Chemistry and Chill Nightclub which are open at least four nights a week, as is the University of Kent’s very own campus nightclub The Venue. CCCU’s The Lounge is the latest hot-spot for its local students which serves good grub at perfect prices.
